Our commitment

CanIBuildHere is committed to making our planning screening service accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We target WCAG 2.2 Level AA across our website and reports.

Current accessibility features

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper heading hierarchy
  • Responsive design that works across screen sizes and orientations
  • Keyboard-navigable primary navigation, forms, buttons and accordions
  • ARIA labels on interactive components
  • Sufficient colour contrast for text content (WCAG AA)
  • Form inputs with visible labels (no placeholder-only labels)
  • Focus indicators on interactive elements
  • PDF reports generated with text content (not image-only)

Known limitations

  • Interactive maps may have limited keyboard and screen-reader support for pin placement, drawing and polygon overlays. Coordinate entry and text descriptions are provided where available.
  • Some third-party embedded content (e.g. map tiles from OpenStreetMap) is outside our direct control.
  • PDF report layout may not be fully optimised for screen readers in all cases.

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 5 working days and to address reported barriers as a priority.

Standards we follow

We target conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. This is the standard referenced by the EU Web Accessibility Directive (2016/2102) and the European Accessibility Act (2019/882). While CanIBuildHere is not a public-sector body and is not legally required to meet these standards, we adopt them voluntarily as best practice. This statement is a description of our target and known limitations, not a claim that every page or PDF has completed a formal independent conformance audit.

If you believe we have not adequately addressed an accessibility issue, you may contact the National Disability Authority (NDA) or the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC).
